Interview with Marinotti

HOW AND WHEN DID YOU START YOUR BUSINESS?
It all began for fun, really, in Cortina in 1989. A small shop, away from the more prestigious Corso Italia. Elegant products and particular furnishings are what the Marinotti name became famous for from the start. And in just a few years, we found ourselves needing extra space and wanting to expand. So we took the big step, buying an historic shop premises at 126 Corso Italia in 1997. Our continued research and our passion for this line of work have allowed us to consolidate the business and open new stores. Now, as well as Marinotti 126, Marinotti Cortina also has the single-brand store, Brunello Cucinelli and a new premises, which will be opening in early December, a 500 sq. m concept store at 160 Corso Italia.

HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE THE STYLE OF YOUR STORE?
Refined, elegant, sober, sophisticated, and portable.

WHICH ARE YOUR FAVOURITE BRANDS AND MOST POPULAR TYPES OF GOODS IN SALES TERMS?
Our top selling goods when it comes to menswear are trousers, shirts and shoes. In the winter, and especially in the month of December, we sell a lot of heavy outerwear. For women, we mainly sell total look brands and especially, sophisticated, exclusive garments. Women’s footwear, too, is proving to have an excellent sell out.

WHAT DO YOU BUY FROM XACUS?
We buy our men’s line – mainly shirts with a less classic feel - from Xacus. We definitely touch on the micro patterns and all of the bolder checks, including on flannel.

HOW IMPORTANT IS THE LEVEL OF SERVICE OFFERED BY THE BRANDS YOU WORK WITH?
Today, it’s essential. Good service from a company is also reflected in the end customer.

HOW IMPORTANT ARE YOUR EMPLOYEES AND HOW DO YOU TRY TO GIVE THEM AN INCREASINGLY ACTIVE ROLE IN YOUR BUSINESS?
We firmly believe that now, more than ever, the people in the store are what make the difference. A kind staff member, who is helpful and who knows their stuff is most definitely an added value.
