Interview with Mario Bonamigo, owner
HOW DID YOU START THIS BUSINESS?
We started in 1993 together with two great friends Paolo Conte and Luca Aldighieri we founded ABC Srl and later on we added a new partner Marco Manganotti. The idea was born because we wanted to take over the shop of Paolo's father with the concept of creating a space capable of reppresenting all of Us. My father used to own a shop, Paolo was the owner of an important shirt company, while Luca has been for many years a research developer for W.P. Lavori in Corso and Replay, probably it was the right mix of people for starting a successful business. Then 3 years ago we have decided to take different paths and now i carry on the shop alone with my employees.
HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE YOUR SHOP?
I don't have a precise taste... but i like to define it as "Vintage Chic" especially for the furniture. We don't sell Labels, we propose a mix of products that we define of "research" but overall they have to mix well with each other.
WHICH ARE YOUR FAVOURITE BRANDS AND WHICH ARE THE CATEGORIES OF PRODUCT YOU SELL THE BEST?
My favourite brands are RRL, ENGINEERED GARMENT and REDS and what we sell the most in are , shirts, pants and jackets (in order).
WHAT DO YOU BUY FROM XACUS AND HOW YOU LIKE COMBINE IT?
From Xacus we buy most Beluga Washed shirt and a little of stretch, we don't follow trends, we buy what we like and what we think we can transfer to our clients by matching the shirts at the buying moment with the other categories like jackets and pants overall.
HOW DO YOU THINK IT’S IMPORTANT THE LEVEL OF SERVICE YOU GET FROM A BRAND YOU WORK WITH?
Years ago when "money where looking for clothing" we didn't expect that much collaboration from the companies, now we live in a different scenario where "clothing is looking for money" and now it's very important to team up with a company and it's services a kind of equilibrium between both the parts. We like to reorder and to work with the company warehouse in order to reduce our level of stock and to focus during the collection on the most important new theme of the collection.
HOW IMPORTANT ARE YOUR EMPLOYEES AND HOW YOU KEEP THEM MOTIVATED?
I find this issue very important for a shop in order to be successful, i like to define my employees as the mirrors of my shop and overall the first mannequines of the shop! In our shop we don't have seller number 1,2,3 ecc..., but we have Fish, Ferenz, Laura, Greta and Me, i don't have directors we don't have somebody that does this or that, everyone of us does everything and everybody is responsible for everything happens in the shop and around it. For this reasons i find correct to give incetives economically and not only.
