"we closely follow what is happening in the fashion business"
WHEN AND HOW DID YOU START YOUR BUSINESS?
Van Zuilen was founded fifty years ago as a small ladies boutique selling exclusive and luxurious ladies collections. The company is now run by the second generation. Twenty years ago we opened Van Zuilen Men right next door. Now in 2016 Van Zuilen exists in eight historical buildings including a church dating back to the 14th century.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE TASTE OF YOUR STORE?
We sell luxury casuals, mainly from Italy. We are not exactly trendsetters but we closely follow what is happening in the fashion business.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE BRANDS AND WHICH ARE THE CATEGORIES YOU SELL MORE?
We sell famous Italian brands such as Corneliani, Woolrich, Jacob Cohen, Gran Sasso, Fay and, of course, a huge selection of our favorite shirt brand: Xacus. 60% of our sales nowadays are related to luxury casuals.
BUYING SELECTION WITH REFERENCE TO XACUS?
We almost sell everything Xacus offers: business with travel and stretch shirts, washed ones in flannel, cashmere and linen, fashion shirts with slim fits in stretch and small collars; and we even make a selection for some classic button down shirts. We really use Xacus as a shirt specialist. HOW IMPORTANT IS THE
LEVEL OF SERVICE OF A BRAND YOU WORK WITH?
Collaboration and close contact with suppliers is essential. With Amsterdam Fashion Group (Xacus distributor in The Netherlands) we are in contact almost every week, whether for a small reorder, made to measure shirt or just a simple question. We need to be served straight away. One of the strong points of Xacus is the huge no. of services. Besides selecting the best products we also take a good look at the service level of the company as is a key point for us.
HOW IMPORTANT ARE YOUR EMPLOYEES AND HOW DO YOU TRY TO ENGAGE THEM?
At Van Zuilen we are a team and every player is important. The biggest asset we have are our colleagues. Without them, everything stops.
WE ARE 60 YEARS IN 2016. SEND US A SPECIAL GREETING.
We work with Xacus because they are a specialist. Keep doing what you are great at: making shirts. Happy 60th Anniversary Xacus!
