interview with

ZOE

— Bassano del Grappa, Vicenza, Italia

“Fashion fades, only style remains the same.”

HOW AND WHEN DID YOU START THE BUSINESS?
Zoe was opened on 21 March 1998, initially as a store selling underwear and swimwear. At the time, business licences were subject to quotas, but on 15 April 1998, they were finally deregulated and therefore, I can call myself lucky because then I could start selling clothes and accessories, just as I’d wanted!

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE LOOK AND FEEL OF YOUR STORE?
I wouldn’t define Zoe as having an exact style; you can find different ideas to suit different types of woman, although certainly with an eye to elegance and femininity, but in no way tied to the fashions of the moment.

WHICH ARE YOUR FAVOURITE BRANDS AND MOST POPULAR ITEMS?
Zoe identifies a good deal with the ranges of Dries Van Noten and Forte-Forte, which we have been buying for years. We also work with smaller labels, found here and there around the world. Our most popular items are definitely dresses.

WHICH XACUS ITEMS DO YOU PURCHASE?
We mainly buy our most beautiful shirts from Xacus, but when we find dresses or shirt dresses, we tend to focus there too, because the type of store we have works well with this type of product.

HOW IMPORTANT IS THE LEVEL OF SERVICE OFFERED BY THE BRANDS YOU CHOOSE TO WORK WITH?
Lately we have been working more with companies that offer us collaboration, service and flexibility.

HOW IMPORTANT ARE YOUR EMPLOYEES AND HOW DO YOU TRY TO INVOLVE THEM?
Naturally, without staff we can’t progress the business. I try to involve our staff in the choice of collections, layouts and windows.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE QUOTE OR MOTTO?
“Fashion fades, only style remains the same.”
